This morning my husband’s alarm woke me up, two hours before my own would go off. I then had very strange dreams, woke up late and had to rush around to get out of the house and get to work. PLUS my hair looks terrible.
Not exactly a sunshine and rainbows kind of morning.
Sometimes life gives you lemons, there are small lemons, large lemons, bushels of lemons and sometimes a very tart lime gets thrown in there. My morning was a small lemon, but one that none the less gave me a rather sour taste in my mouth. I could have let it ruin my whole day. I could have come to work and complained to numerous co-workers; thereby requesting them to be my minions and commensurate with me.
“Minions! Assemble!!!” – Despicable Me
Instead, I was able to recognize that traffic was actually good for rush hour in Hampton Roads and revel in being able to get to work on time, despite my late start. I was able to get in with enough time to grab a mug of tea and a yogurt. It was quiet enough for me to truly savor the heat coming off my cup, the steam against my face and the taste on my tongue.
This is called practicing gratitude. I learned this valuable lesson from a wonderful Medicine Woman from my hometown. She taught empowerment classes and I was one of the lucky ones who was able to attend on Friday evenings for nearly two years.
You may be asking yourself, why am I reading this? What does it have to do with me?
Well my friend, this is the beginning of learning how to recognize life lemons, determine if they are lessons or reminders and figure out how to turn them into some amazing lemonade.
Stay tuned and get ready to dig deep.
