Four days ago my Mom posted a meme created by Dr. Heidi Green that describes what self-sabotage looks like:
Y'all.
I feel called to the carpet! It put me in the hot seat and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.
Until I did, and then encountered a situation that smacked me right in the face and brought it back to the forefront.
You see, I embody LITERALLY each one of those damn bullet points and when you’re busy sabotaging yourself, you open the door to becoming a martyr. There’s an expectation that while you’re busying giving everything to everyone, they would return the favor. But they don’t y'all, because they aren’t self-sabotaging.
So it’s time to get out my cards, watching my words, set boundaries, and remember that it’s about living in expectation, not having expectations.
Where they any bullets on the list that resonate with you?
- Rejecting praise & compliments
- Not asking for help
- Pushing people away when they start to get close
- Opening up and attaching to others prematurely
- Refusing to do something unless you can do it perfectly
- Procrastinating on important projects
- Putting everyone else’s needs before your own
- Constantly criticizing yourself
- Isolating when you’re hurting
